11.9 X 44R HAGEN-LUND

This cartridge differs from the standard 12 x 44R in that it has a larger case diameter with a slight neck. It was thought to have been introduced circa 1906 when it was legislated in Norway that the largest calibre to be used on reindeer was to be 12mm. It is assumed that RWS manufactured all cases in this calibre. The name of the cartridge is derived from the Norwegian Chief Armourer Jacob Gabriel Lund who converted the 11.7 M.1860 breach loading rifle to the 12 x 44 M67 rimfire cartridge. Gunmaker Lars Hagen further modified such rifles.
