338 DAKOTA SHORT MAGNUM

   Replica

The 338 Dakota Short Magnum is a cartridge that saw the light at roughly the same time as the 423 Lapua in 2005 and apparently both were tested on a hunt in Tanzania. The 423 Lapua went on to be produced commercially as a joint venture between Lapua and Dakota Arms, but the 338 seems to have faded into obscurity. There were rumours as well that the 338 DSM was developed for a tactical rifle for military purposes but nothing has come of it as well. The 338 DSM is smaller than the 338 Norma Magnum that did achieve some military application through General Dynamics, so it could mean that the 338 DSM might have been tested but was not adopted, but again, there is no substantiated evidence of such tests.
