454 CASULL

The 454 Casull was developed in 1957 – just two years after the launch of the 44 Magnum – by Dick Casull and Jack Fullmer as a cartridge for handgun hunting and was based on a strengthened 45 Colt case lengthened by 1/10th inch but the cartridge was only SAAMI registered in 1998. Standard 45 Colt cartridges can be fired in the 454 Casull but not vice versa, much like the 38 Special and the 357 Magnum. (Erlmeier, Brandt Ref. 455).
