6.35 X 48 US EXPERIMENTAL

Also known as the .25 Winchester. This round was developed in the continued search for a replacement for the 7.62 NATO round. It was designed by Frankford Arsenal but Winchester also manufactured it. The single bullet versions were designated FA-T110. These had a mv of 3 300 fps. The duplex loads were desinated FA-T115, with 2 bullets, each weighing 53gr. and a mv of 2 600fps and 2 400fps respectively.

Frankford Arsenal production from 1959. Bullet has a knurled crimping cannelure and is retained in the case by a cone crimping.

Proof loading with red base and bullet

The specimens below all have the WCC 59 headstamp,

GMCS Ball loading with steel core and lead base plug. Bullet differs from the FA 59 specimen above as it has a smooth crimping cannelure and a heavy neck crimp.

The green tip is for duplex loadings. It is loaded with 2 53gr. bullets.

This is a dispersion test round. This is also a duplex load where the top projectile has an orange coloured waxy compound to mark the paper target to distinguish the striking points between the two bullets. The green is still visible beneath the orange coating.
