8 X 64S BRENNEKE

The 8x64S was designed in 1912 as a necked-up version of the 30-06 cartridge and the S (.323) version was believed to be the first rimless Brenneke loading. It was originally conceived as a military cartridge but was not adopted and Brenneke shifted the focus to a sporting load. It was however close to WW1 and it was only in 1920 that it was more widely used as a sporting rifle. (Dixon Ref. W9)
