18 HOMOLOGOUS (PROJECT SALVO)

Ballistics Research Lab at Aberdeen Proving Grounds prepared a study entitled “An Effectiveness Study of the Infantry Rifle” early in 1952. Small Caliber High Velocity (SCHV) rounds were developed with the idea in mind that lightweight projectiles fired at high enough velocity would be just as lethal as the issue .30 M2 projectile. The projectile weight is 35gr. and the muzzle velocity was 4 255 fps (1 290 m/s). This cartridge is based on the 7.62 NATO case and was a Winchester project.
