40 TAURUS

This was a joint development by CCI and Taurus with the cartridges manufactured by CCI for Taurus in July 1993. With the development of the 40 S&W, Taurus experienced a decline in sales from their 38 Special revolvers and they were looking to regain market share by offering a high powered .40 cal revolver round to compete with the .40 S&W. Only two revolvers were made for testing and – according to existing records – only around 500 rounds were manufactured by CCI on berdan primed, non-reloadable aluminium cases, most of which were shot during testing. Very few of the original rounds survived – probably less than thirty, but the exact number is unclear.
