9.75 X 36.5R AUSTRIAN TARGET

The Lorenz c1886 Export catalog shows a 9.75×36.5R (case #266) with  ‘Moe’ or ‘Werndl’ case dimensions and this appears identical to copper cased Roth specimens starting with “GR/18/II/71/” hs. No Roth number is known for this case type although it is similar to the 9.8x36R (case #44 see A9) which has a raised base whereas this has a flat base. It has been speculated that this was for an Austrian experimental Military Revolver but the existence of the Lorenz case may well contradict this.

Both paper patched and plain lead bullets are known loaded in this case type. Some of the Roth cases have a bullet with much “smaller apparent diameter” which appears to be a 9.3mm but actually has a much larger true diameter. The mouth diameter is very similar which is a good indicator of the diameter in this case. (Dixon)
