The 33 XC (eXtra Capacity) was developed by David Tubb, multiple champion in ELR (Extended Long Range) shooting. It is also the parent case for the 37XC and the 41XC. The idea was to have a cartridge for ELR shooting that had the ballistics of a 338 Lapua Improved, but with a factory case, and not something that is expensive to produce and takes time by necking and fireforming cases. The criticism David had about the 338 LM Improved was all the work for about 10 grains of additional powder capacity, while the 33XC is factory produced and gives 20 grains more capacity, 35-degree shoulder and longer neck, when compared to a 338 Lapua. The 33XC is starting to make a name for itself, with the King of 1 Mile competition held in Caylus, France in 2020 was won by Frenchman Gineste Benjamin with his 33XC.
