The 7mm STW was designed by Layne Simpson during the mid-90’s and was based on the 8mm Remington Magnum case necked down to 7mm. The 7mm STW was adopted by Remington but unfortunately suffered the same fate as the parent 8mm cartridge, being discontinued as a rifle chambering after only a short period of time. In this instance, the retiring of the 7mm STW was deliberate due to Remington’s adoption of the 7mm RUM during the race for non-belted magnum cartridge designs.
